"The Jungle" Rousseau silk scarf
The design of this silk scarf is based on Henri Rousseau's (1844-1910) paintings.
This scarf uses details from Forêt Tropicale avec singes, Le Rêve et Forêt Vierge au soleil couchant, and illustrates one of the most creative thematic of the French painter.
The fanciful and stylized exoticism of Henri Rousseau comes from the Jardin des Plantes, the acclimatization garden or from the botanical journal of that period. Original colorist, with a rough but precise style, he influenced the naïve painting. First of all criticized for the lack of realism and naivety, his “jungles” will be admitted as models for everyone. Hence this sentence of Guillaume Appolinaire, during the Salon dʼAutomne where Rousseau exhibited Le Rêve : “This year, no one laughs, everyone is unanimous : they admire”.
